The Fnova 34dB Ear Defenders have an impressive Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 34 dB, which is high enough to protect your hearing from very loud activities such as concerts and shooting. These ear defenders can also be used for reducing lower levels of noise from traffic, neighbours and sports matches.

This high level of protection comes at a very affordable price, so you might have questions about how comfy these ear defenders are and how well they perform. Find out in this review…

Performance and comfort

These ear defenders are good at reducing most kinds of noise, including the noise of neighbours, mowing the lawn, working with machinery or and power tools, and drumming.  As with all ear defenders, they won’t completely block out all sound, but the Fnova Ear Defenders can be relied on to give a good level of protection. If you want maximum noise attenuation you can combine them with ear plugs.

The cups have two layers of noise-dampening foam, with a soft and comfortable cushioned lining offering a good combination of noise reduction and comfort.

The ear defenders are relatively comfy to wear, but your ears might need a break after an hour or so of use. The clasp is quite strong, which helps seal the cups over your ears, but this can become uncomfortable if you wear them for prolonged periods.

The Fnova Ear Defenders can be adjusted 1¼ inches vertically to fit different head sizes. Even on the smallest setting they are still quite large, and might be too big for children or adults with smaller than average heads. The manufacturers don’t recommend these ear defenders for children under the age of 3, but even older kids might find them too big.

Unlike some other ear defenders such as these from Mpow, the Fnova 34dB Ear Defenders don’t come with a protective carrying bag, which could be inconvenient when you want to travel with them or keep them clean in dirty work environments. However, you could easily improvise with a plastic bag or buy a cheap cotton bag to keep them in.

These ear defenders come in a choice of colours (black, blue, red or yellow), so you don’t have to settle for a default colour.

Pros
  • Effective at reducing noise and protecting hearing
  • Generally comfy
  • Inexpensive
  • Come in a choice of colours
  • Currently sold with a 60-day money-back guarantee
Cons
  • Only for larger heads
  • Not recommended for children under 3
  • Can get hot and feel tight after an hour or so
  • No carrying bag included

Verdict

The Fnova 34dB Ear Defenders are a solid choice if you want something affordable and comfy that will protect your hearing and reduce the sound of distracting background noise. You should be aware though that these ear defenders are relatively large, so they’re not ideal for children or adults with smaller than average heads.
